Everybody still loves white kitchen cabinets

2023 April 8

Every year designers and industry pundits declare white as passé and point to up and coming colors.

Martha Stewart says, “Bolder tones, like cherry red and deep olive green, will dominate in the heart of the home.” She goes on to say, “Design experts expect all-white kitchens to ebb in popularity.” They say that every year!

The paint color pros at Better Homes & Gardens say, “You can expect to see nature-inspired hues this year.”  What colors exactly? “Expect to see an abundance of dark greens, warm neutrals, and a flush of soft pink.”

Pink!

Hmm. These two industry voices are not exactly on the same page, are they? One says bold, while the other says natural tones.

They are on the same page about white, though: Everything but white.

Well, to be fair, Better Homes and Gardens’ series of color choices did feature a white – last on its list, of course.

And that’s just two voices!  The reality is, there is no consensus by the experts on kitchen cabinet colors.

But – there is a consensus from kitchen owners. That consensus, year after year, is white.

For the last five years, according to Statista,

White cabinets rule!

That’s right, white is by far the most popular choice for the last five years. Still going strong.

Yet the experts have been predicting the demise of white for as long as this writer can remember. Here is Elle Decor Magazine predicting colors in 2018: “mix and match finishes, all violet everything, high contrast, blue and green…”

All violet everything! Yikes.

What does Google say?

The interest in white kitchens is steady, year after year. Maybe there is something timeless about white. Classic. We’ll see.

Moral to the kitchen cabinet colors story: If you want a white kitchen, go for it. Your boldness might not be ‘all violet everything’, ‘deep olive green’, or ‘soft pink’. Make your boldness doing what you want.

Everybody still loves white…or not.
